Amos 7

“And the Lord said to me, ‘Amos, what do you see?’ I answered, ‘A plumb line.’ And the Lord replied, ‘I will test my people with this plumb line. I will no longer ignore all their sins.'” Amos 7:8 NLT

Prior to this verse, the Lord had shown Amos two different visions in which He would destroy Israel. But after both visions, Amos pleaded with the Lord to forgive the Israelites of their sins and He relented.

God bears long, giving us all the opportunity to repent and come back to Him, but we should not be slow in doing so.

There will come a time when our sins will no longer be ignored. There will come a time when prayer will be of no avail. All intercession, however passionate or eager, will be too late, as the door of mercy will be shut.

  1. I have always thought it was interesting to stand up to God. Like Moses saying that he couldn’t do what God asked if him, or Jonah going in the opposite direction, or even at the beginning when Eve and Adam are the fruit…how could they disobey such clear instructions?

But then they were still used for His purpose, despite their disobedience.

    This stood out for me:
“Then the Lord relented from this plan, too. “I will not do that either,” said the Sovereign Lord.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭7:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We can intercede for others and even God cam change His mind. Crazy to think of but true as revealed to us through scripture. Amos desired God to change His mind and He did. What would we pray for if we knew our prayers would be answered????
