Micah 4

“For all people walk each in the name of his god. But we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.” Micah 4:5 NKJV

The term ‘to walk’ is equivalent to carrying on a course of practical action. Along with that, ‘the name’ of a god is his display of character. If we look at The Lord’s Prayer, “Hallowed be Thy name” precedes “Thy will be done”. So in putting that all together, the expression to “walk in the name” would mean to live out and act according to the worshipper’s god.

For all people will walk, and a man’s god is what will rule his practical life. May we choose not to pick and choose our gods moving from one to another, but rather let us walk in a way that honours the God of all gods, remaining loyal to Him, forever and ever.

“From reverent thoughts about the name must flow life in reverent conformity to the will.” McLaren

  1. This stood out for me: “But they do not know the Lord’s thoughts or understand his plan. These nations don’t know that he is gathering them together to be beaten and trampled like sheaves of grain on a threshing floor.”
    ‭‭Micah‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Why did Covid happen? Why did a 15 year old drown? Why did an active Grandpa die suddenly? Why does cancer come back? These are questions that only God knows the answer to. We want to know, but we just can’t begin to comprehend what God’s plan is. Grain on its own is pretty useless. It’s only after it’s been crushed, separated, and milled that it can have incredibly more value to be made into bread and even seeds to plant new crops. The trampling and crushing we experience in our own life prepares us for something even better than we could imagine.
