Micah 5

“The remnant of Jacob will be in the midst of many peoples like dew from the Lord, like showers on the grass, which do not wait for anyone or depend on man.” Micah 5:7 NIV

In reading this verse I am reminded of two things. The first is, the power of our Lord and that He is always working in the background. The morning dew just comes to be, regardless of what man does throughout the previous day. The sun will always rise and the sun will always set. He has a power that none can contend. He was not created but is the Creator. He creates all things, controls all things, and has his hand in all things.

The second is, that as believers we are like a remnant for the Lord in the midst of many people. Particularly during this world-wide pandemic, we need to apply our knowledge of who He is so that we can be used as instruments in spreading the love of Jesus to all. Just as the dew and rain do not pick and choose which blades of grass they fall upon, we too should not pick and choose who we share the gift of salvation with.

May we remember who the way maker is. May we depend on Him. May we worship Him. May we serve Him. May we place our hope and confidence in Him. May we do this so that we would draw other towards Him. Amen.

  1. Great thoughts.

The remnant stood out for me too: “The remnant left in Israel will take their place among the nations. They will be like a lion among the animals of the forest, like a strong young lion among flocks of sheep and goats, pouncing and tearing as they go with no rescuer in sight.”
    ‭‭Micah‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Thinking about designated survivor, the remnant (tiny piece of the former congress) will rise to the most powerful position in the world (according to those who think the US is the most powerful 😏) This remnant has ultimate power and authority and can, basically, do what it wants (fire the general, arrest an elected official, start a war). The remnant, once insignificant, becomes the most important. Bethlehem, seemingly insignificant, now is known for eternity as the birth place of Jesus. No longer just a remnant but an important place in history.
