“Then the watchman called out, ‘ Day after day I have stood on the watchtower, my Lord. Night after night I have remained at my point. Now at last – look!” Isaiah 21:8-9a NLT
This chapter is concerning the prophecy of Babylon and its fall. Here in this verse, the watchman is expressing that he has been obedient to the Lord’s commands; on the watchtower looking day and night for the signs to watch for given by the Lord.
Just as in this verse the Lord will guide and direct us providing us with signs of assurance, but we don’t know when the outcome will present itself. In fact this verse tells us that the watchman stood day after day and night after night watching and waiting for the prophecy to become reality.
May we not lose heart in waiting upon the Lord. May we be like this watchman remaining where God commands us, sticking to our post day and night. May we also not lose focus, so that when the Lord’s plan is revealed, we too can say, ‘now at last – look!’.

This stood out for me: “Look! They are preparing a great feast. They are spreading rugs for people to sit on. Everyone is eating and drinking. But quick! Grab your shields and prepare for battle. You are being attacked!”
Isaiah 21:5 NLT
I think this is a reminder (just as you mentioned) that we need to be on guard as waiting for what God has planned for us. We shouldn’t let the fleeting pleasures of the world skew our focus on what’s truly important. There is always a battle against sin that we could easily let win. We need to be on guard to ensure that doesn’t happen.
