Isaiah 22

“Judah’s defences have been stripped away. You run to the armoury for your weapons. You inspect the breaks in the walls of Jerusalem. You store up water in the lower pool. You survey the houses and tear some down for stone to strengthen the walls. Between the city walls, you build a reservoir for water from the old pool. But you never considered the One who planned this long ago.” Isaiah 22:8-11 NLT

The verses above stood out to me because they reminded me of a to-do list. Not that I have had to accomplish the above tasks, but when I have a day off from work I make a list of items surrounding our house and yard that require attention. In addition to my ideas of what’s needed to be on the to-do list, I will also ask my wife if there is anything that she can think of. In doing so, this helps me to either confirm that I have identified the tasks that need addressing, or it will bring to light an area that I had not thought of. When I attempt the repair or task on the to-do list, there are times that the task may require some consideration into whether or not this could have been prevented and forces me to ponder the steps needed to prevent this from reoccurring in the future.

The same considerations need to be made on our to-do list for our spiritual lives. Are we focused solely on the repair required, not questioning the why or how this came to be? Do we consider the implementation of a preventative maintenance plan? Are we working at this on our own, or do we consider the One who is in control of all things – asking Him to bring to light the areas that need attention?

May we remember to seek the Lord for our to-do list, thereby making His plan our plan.

  1. This stood out for me: “But instead, you dance and play; you slaughter cattle and kill sheep. You feast on meat and drink wine. You say, “Let’s feast and drink, for tomorrow we die!””
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭22:13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Biblical YOLO! To live believing that today is your last can produce two things: 1. The desire to go out well with everything in place and right with God. Or 2. Party without any inhibitions because the end is inevitable. The truth is that we all live like this not knowing IF tomorrow is our last. Don’t waste it.
