The following verse stood out to me:
“When the people bring their sin offerings, the priests get fed. So the priests are glad when the people sin!” Hosea 4:8 NLT
The priests mentioned here are living off of the sin offerings of the people. They have no intentions of restraining them from making bad choices in the future, nor encouraging or challenging them to change their ways today. Rather, they seem to take delight in seeing the people commit iniquity because the more they sin, the more they eat.
As I read this verse it did make me chuckle. But it did also remind me of how sad it is when people ‘run through the motions’ but their heart is not in it. It is when we perform the Lord’s work with our own intentions and purpose that we burn out and grow weary.

This stood out for me: “So you will stumble in broad daylight, and your false prophets will fall with you in the night. And I will destroy Israel, your mother.”
Hosea 4:5 NLT
We started our advent story ribbon in grade 1 today as we prepare for Christmas. The first piece is a candle to remind us that Jesus was born to be a bright light in a dark world. Sin keeps us in the dark and when I read that there was stumbling in the daylight it must be REALLY bad. You know what is right, you know how to fix it, and yet you choose to stumble. Sin = destruction. Walk in the light

As I read your post it occurred to me the modern parallel with the priests in this scripture is the Catholic church.
