Isaiah 31

“What sorrow awaits those who look to Egypt for help, trusting their horses, chariots and charioteers and depending on the strength of human armies instead of looking to the Lord, the Holy One of ISrael.” Isaiah 31:1 NLT

Egypt would have been considered a powerhouse due to the strength of their army – their horses, chariots, charioteers, and men. It would have been easy for Judah to place their confidence in something this visibly powerful.

Just as we can only serve one God, we can also only trust in one. By placing our confidence in ourselves, our money, our wisdom, or our strength, we show a distrust in the Lord. We know our God is superior to all things – after all, He made all things. Yet we neglect to look to Him in the midst of our weakness and go to that which we can visibly see.

May we remember in all circumstances to look beyond what our eyes can see and place our trust in the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

  1. This stood out for me: “In his wisdom, the Lord will send great disaster; …”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭31:2‬a NLT‬‬

Those two things don’t seem to fit together. Wisdom = disaster?? Why would God bring disaster in response to wisdom?? But it is always in our greatest struggles that we grow closer to God. How can we realize how much we need Him if we do not face disaster?
