Isaiah 52

“The watchmen shout and sing with joy, for before their very eyes they see the Lord returning to Jerusalem.” Isaiah 52:8 NLT

As a young boy I can recall a time of being hungry and unsure of what to make for supper. My father was working (he was a long distance truck driver) and my mother was not home. I do not recall where she was, but perhaps she was grocery shopping because I could not find anything to eat in the cupboards – only boxes and cans of food that required an imagination to put it all together for a home-cooked meal. There were no personal cell phones during this time, so this was a game of waiting without the ability of ‘finding my friends’ for location with the estimated time of arrival. In this moment, I was a watchman somehow thinking that she would arrive sooner due to my peering through the front window. While I was on the ‘lookout’, I was hopeful with anticipation in the return of my Mom – for at that moment, she would be my redeemer.

Just as the return of my mother provided relief for me and my siblings, those who seek Jesus find relief through him as He releases the heavy burden of sin and by the Holy Spirit, we can shake loose all the doubts, fears, and bands that once had a tight grip on us. My mother purchased groceries for us with her money, but the payment for redemption of our sins was Christ’s precious blood.

Do we seek victory over ever sin, or just the sins that are easy for us? May we keep ourselves clean from the pollutions of this world and may we remember that the glory of God requires holiness in all areas of our lives.

  1. “Let the ruins of Jerusalem break into joyful song, for the Lord has comforted his people. He has redeemed Jerusalem.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭52:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Interesting that the same verse/theme stood out for me. I was thinking more of the perspective that it mentions the “ruins” of Jerusalem breaking into song. This would imply that there was to be some breaking down or breaking apart for the ruins to happen but that makes the redemption even greater. Perhaps your hunger was the ‘ruins’ and that made supper that much better🤷🏻‍♀️ I think that in life, when we reach the ruins it is so much easier to accept redemption than if we lived in perfectness.
