Zephaniah 1

“‘Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord’s wrath.’ In the fire of his jealousy the whole earth will be consumed for he will make a sudden end of all who live on the earth.” Zephaniah 1:18 NIV

There are some things that money can’t buy and our salvation is one of those things. We can either work all our days for the riches here on earth, or we can work towards storing up our treasures in Heaven. I am reminded of Mark 8:36 – “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?”

God’s wrath is sure to come – at an unknown time, whether we are ready or not. May we not delay and run to the Lord, and thereby, fleeing from the wrath that is to come, accepting and receiving that which can never be taken away from us:

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

It is because of this that he have hope. A hope not placed in ourselves and what we can do, but in Christ Jesus and for what He has already done.

  1. This stood out for me: “And I will destroy those who used to worship me but now no longer do. They no longer ask for the Lord’s guidance or seek my blessings.””
    ‭‭Zephaniah‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We often hear of “celebrity” Christians renouncing their faith. These big names in Christian circles are often looked up to and celebrated. When they walk away and make it public that they are it affects so many people. People who interact with them, people who follow them, and people who use their lifestyle change to validate their own misconceptions thatGod is not real. I can’t help but feel despair for those who walk away and what sorrow they will have in eternity knowing that they could have all that God promises. There is also sorrow in them knowing their walk away from God may have prevented others from entering into a relationship with Christ.
