Jeremiah 5

“Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear.” Jeremiah 5:21 NIV

This verse reminds me of the words knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge would be the accumulation of facts and information, while wisdom is a combination of knowledge, perspective, experience, along with the ability to make sound judgments regarding a situation.

In this verse, the Lord is saying that the Israelites have all that they need to be obedient. They have the knowledge. They have seen the Lord provide for them and have heard the Lords commands through the different prophets. They don’t, however, have wisdom.

According to Claudios Galenos, a Greek physician, the heart is the symbol and the seat of wisdom. May we then humble our hearts, so that we don’t simply see what the Lord has done and hear what the Lord is saying, but that we can also exercise, apply, and make God fearing decisions in all situations.

  1. This stood out for me: “Your wickedness has deprived you of these wonderful blessings. Your sin has robbed you of all these good things.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭5:25‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There are wonderful blessings and good things waiting for us. However, sin separates us from them. In the long term our sin and wickedness separates us from God and eternity in heaven, in the short term we don’t have the peace and joy we can have if we follow God’s design and plan.
