“They are the worst kind of rebel, full of slander. They are as hard as bronze and iron, and they lead others into corruption. The bellows fiercely fan the flames to burn out the corruption. But it does not purify them, for the wickedness remains.” Jeremiah 6:28-29 NLT
In these verses the Israelites are compared to being as hard as iron. For a comparison, I researched some differences between iron and gold and found two interesting facts. The first is that iron has a much higher melting and boiling point than gold; 1,535 versus 1,062 degrees Celsius and 2,750 verses 2,000 degrees Celsius respectively. The second fact is that when compared to their malleability, gold has the upper hand there too as it can be hammered or pressed permanently into a new shape without it breaking or cracking.
We choose. We can have hearts like iron, that are more resistant to becoming purified and moulded into something different, or we can have a heart like gold, one that is more willing to be cleansed and ready to do the will of the Lord.
May we choose the latter.

This stood out for me: “This is what the Lord says: “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls. But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’”
Jeremiah 6:16 NLT
I have this verse highlighted in my bible after a message at church. When we reach a crossroads, we have two choices: go our own way randomly or seek wise counsel to make an informed decision. New, flashy, and popular ways might seem the most appealing but it’s the plan God has set that will not only lead to a good place but a path with no regrets. But we reject what’s good for us and ignore God. Then we complain that we can’t find rest or peace. We often don’t stop look around and instead dive into poor decisions.
