Jeremiah 15

“This is how the Lord responds: ‘If you return to me, I will restore you so you can continue to serve me. If you speak good words rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman. You must influence them; do not let them influence you!'” Jeremiah 15:19 NLT

If you want to restore an old vehicle or a piece of furniture, you need to remove that which is worthless. In the car scenario, all the rust that’s in its body needs to be cut out and removed. If even a small portion of the rust is missed and not removed, the rust will continue to grow and become very evident once again. The rust in the car will never go away on its own, but when done right, the car will be made to look brand new again. In order to accomplish this, the car needs to be brought to a bodyshop so that the qualified individual can work on it.

The same goes for us in our own lives. We need to cut away and remove our ‘rust’. Just as the car is unable to remove the rust on its own, we too are unable to achieve this. We need to go to the one individual who is qualified – Jesus Christ.

May we seek the Lord and return to Him with a contrite heart. Being remorseful for what we’ve done and allowing Him to work in us, moulding us into the servant and spokesperson He wants us to be.

  1. This reminded me of Leviticus and the instructions regarding cleansing items, people and property. We certainly need to be fastidious in being ever watchful in keeping ourselves free from sin or any uncleanness. Thank you for your faithfulness in these Bible studies brother, may our Father bless you.

  2. Great thoughts.

    This stood out for me:
“You have abandoned me and turned your back on me,” says the Lord. “Therefore, I will raise my fist to destroy you. I am tired of always giving you another chance.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭15:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We want to do our own thing but then we want to be free of the consequences that follow—it doesn’t work like that. We do eventually run out of chances. While God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, if we don’t confess them we don’t receive it. Our time on earth is fleeting and who knows when it will end, and when it does we could be out of chances to repent.
