“If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.” Jeremiah 18:7-10 NIV
We have a choice in how we live our lives. God is all knowing in that He knows the outcome of our choices, but the choice is still ours. We can choose to follow Him or we can choose to follow our sinful desires. One path will lead to good while the other will end with disaster.
The good news is that while we will fail and fall short of the Lord’s glorious standard, we can also choose to repent, turn from our evil ways, and return to the Lord. Even in our inconsistency, the Lord remains constant. While we wander away from the Lord, He amazingly stays by our side, ready to hear our cry, and pulling us out from the depths of the sea that we put ourselves in.
May we remember that the Lord is closer than a friend and no matter what we have done, He will always take us back and wash us whiter than snow.

The next verse stood out for me: ““Therefore, Jeremiah, go and warn all Judah and Jerusalem. Say to them, ‘This is what the Lord says: I am planning disaster for you instead of good. So turn from your evil ways, each of you, and do what is right.’””
Jeremiah 18:11 NLT
We don’t like to hear what we don’t want to hear. No one wants to hear that their current lifestyle is wrong. No one wants to hear that disaster is coming. No one wants a warning. Often we too can blame the messenger instead of realizing that the message is one that needs to be heard. Things haven’t changed much since Jeremiah was told to share this message: we still need to repent from our sins, we still need to turn from our evil ways, we still are facing disaster if we fail to repent. Interesting to note this message is timeless.
