Jeremiah 22

“This is what the Lord says, ‘Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and proclaim this message there:'” Jeremiah 22:1 NIV

This verse stood out to me because in our Bible Study group, we just started a session on following Jesus even when it costs us to do so. So how does this verse relate? Well, keep in mind that just a few chapters ago Jeremiah had voiced his complaint to God that whenever he speaks to the Israelites, he is proclaiming a prophecy of violence and destruction coming their way. The result? Jeremiah is ridiculed, mocked, and threatened – even by his friends.

May we have the resolve to follow the Lords leading, guiding, and direction – just like Jeremiah the prophet. Even when it does not make us feel good. Even when it is difficult. Even when it does not line up with our goals. Even when it means we need to give something up. Even when it costs us something.

  1. This stood out for me: “This is what the Lord says: Be fair-minded and just. Do what is right! Help those who have been robbed; rescue them from their oppressors. Quit your evil deeds! Do not mistreat foreigners, orphans, and widows. Stop murdering the innocent!”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭22:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

So interesting that the Bible (written So long ago) is so relevant to today:

Be fair-minded and just- we still struggle with fair in the justice system and racial inequality

Do what is right! “Right” has become relative to each person’s own truth and not God’s.

Help those who have been robbed; rescue them from their oppressors. – what can we do to help those who need rescuing.

Quit your evil deeds! -the evil that surrounds us where what’s wrong is right and what’s crazy is normal and often celebrated.

Do not mistreat foreigners, orphans, and widows. We should desire to help the needy in whatever way we can.

Stop murdering the innocent!” -is there anyone more innocent than the millions killed through abortion.

These are eternal scenarios and so relevant even today.
