Jeremiah 23

“‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.'” Jeremiah 23:5 NIV

We all desire and need direction. Direction in our workplace, our homes, and our churches. For this direction, we look to the individual in position to deliver that wisdom – our boss, our parents, and our pastor. Unfortunately, in all those circumstances we will be disappointed, as no one is righteous.

But we have the promise of a righteous King. One who is wise and has knowledge of all circumstances. He is fair, equal, non discriminatory, and unbiased. He is trustworthy, dependable, and blameless. All qualities that we admire and desire in a leader, but yet we resist to follow Him.

There is only one King who can sit upon the Branch of righteousness and that is Christ our Lord. May our eyes be turned to Him for the wisdom, direction, and guidance that we need. May we pray only to Him and remain in His counsel, so that we might turn from our evil ways.

  1. This stood out for me: “They keep saying to those who despise my word, ‘Don’t worry! The Lord says you will have peace!’ And to those who stubbornly follow their own desires, they say, ‘No harm will come your way!’

If they had stood before me and listened to me, they would have spoken my words, and they would have turned my people from their evil ways and deeds.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭23:17, 22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This made me think of a recent discussion about a church issue. Our desires, or society’s desires, should not dictate how certain things are run in the church. We need to evaluate scripture to know the truth and then act on it. Neglecting this causes us to lead others astray.
