2 Kings 25

This chapter, from start to finish, is the fruition and realization of what Jeremiah prophesied and what we have read earlier.

In Jeremiah 34:2-3 the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah saying, “I (the Lord) am about to give this city (Jerusalem) into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it down. You will not escape from his grasp but will surely be captured and given into his hands.”

In verses 4-5 of that same chapter, the Lord promises king Zedekiah through Jeremiah that, “You will not die by the sword; you will die peacefully.”

As certain as the everyday rising and setting of the sun, along with the constant change of seasons, so are the words of the Lord. His words are true. They are spoken in the form of warnings and promises. They are words of instruction to guide our path and words of wisdom for our eternal benefit.

May we commit ourselves to His instruction as we listen carefully for His words of knowledge, ready to do His will.

  1. As I was reading this and thinking about the beautiful temple (described in pain staking detail) desecrated and Jerusalem destroyed and I couldn’t help but think of the garden of eden.

“He burned down the Temple of the Lord, the royal palace, and all the houses of Jerusalem. He destroyed all the important buildings in the city. Then he supervised the entire Babylonian army as they tore down the walls of Jerusalem on every side.”
    ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭25:9-10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Now the garden wasn’t destroyed but it was taken away because of the promise that God gave to Adam and Eve. God had a plan of protection for Adam and Eve and He warned them but they didn’t listen. God had a plan of protection for the Israelites and He sent messengers to warn them but they didn’t listen. God has a plan for our protection, salvation, and redemption…will we listen?
