“When Jeremiah had finished giving this message from the Lord their God to all the people, Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the other proud men said to Jeremiah, ‘You lie! The Lord our God hasn’t forbidden us to go to Egypt!'” Jeremiah 43:1-2 NLT
The NLT uses the word “proud” while the NIV uses the word “arrogant” in verse 2. When we are arrogant, we have an exaggerated self opinion. We are cocky, conceited, egotistical, and vain. We become presumptuous – believing that we know what is best and not being open to observe that which is appropriate.
In church today we say the song Blessed Assurance. In verse two of this song, we sang:
Perfect submission, all is at rest. I in my Saviour, am happy and blessed. Watching and waiting, looking above. Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
May we not be proud and arrogant but rather submit ourselves to our Saviour. May we watch for Him. May we wait for Him. May we loose ourselves in Him and His love. May that be our story and the song that we sing.

That same thing stood out for me:
“Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the other proud men said to Jeremiah, “You lie! The Lord our God hasn’t forbidden us to go to Egypt!”
Jeremiah 43:2 NLT
May we never be too proud to listen to wise and godly advice.
