Jeremiah 45

“You said, ‘Woe to me! The Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am worn out with groaning and find no rest.’ But the Lord has told me to say to you, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot what I have planted, throughout the earth.'” Jeremiah 45:3-4 NIV

The prophecy we have in this chapter concerns Baruch only, but those that serve the Lord faithfully and remain close to Him during difficult times can also find support and encouragement through this.

God is all knowing, all powerful, and always in control. He is the creator and the planter, so He can therefore also destroy and uproot that which He has made and planted.

The point is not that the Lord acts as He pleases, but that we need to have faith in the One who creates and destroys, and who plants and uproots. May we not place our hopes in that which is uncertain, nor fret over that which can be uprooted, but rather cling to the Lord and hold fast to Him.

  1. ““Baruch, this is what the Lord says: ‘I will destroy this nation that I built. I will uproot what I planted.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭45:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I noticed that the Lord says “I” will uproot what “I” have planted … basically indicating that He knows our past and our future, and He gives and takes away. What also stood out for me was that while uprooting weeds kills them, uprooting good plants usually means putting them in a better place to grow. May I seek to know that God could be using my uprooting to help me grow.
