Jeremiah 46

“‘Do not be afraid, Jacob my servant, for I am with you,'” declares the Lord. ‘Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you but only in due measure; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.'” Jeremiah 46:28 NIV

In insurance policies, an act of God describes an event outside of human control or activity – typically an earthquake or a flood, or something else that would appear to be out of control. How helpless one feels during a flood; watching the water fill their house and cause total ruin to their home.

In our personal and spiritual lives, there are also acts of God. These acts are designed to correct and rebuke us. Just as the verse says, He “will discipline you but only in due measure”. We can have comfort knowing that He will be just and not make our punishment greater than we deserve. But on the flip side, we will be punished, which should instill a fear within us that no act is unknown to Him and that we will be held accountable for all our actions.

May our fear of the Lord draw us into full repentance, so that while being in His presence on the day of judgement, we will not receive everlasting punishment but everlasting comfort and peace.

  1. This stood out for me: ““Prepare your shields, and advance into battle! Harness the horses, and mount the stallions. Take your positions. Put on your helmets. Sharpen your spears, and prepare your armor.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭46:3-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

No one enters battle without preparation. We also must prepare for “battle” before we engage in it. Whether that be fleeing from temptation or sin or defending our faith there are many preparations we can make to ensure we win the battle.
