Ezekiel 22

“Her priests do violence to my law and profane my holy things; they do not distinguish between the holy and the common; they teach that there is no difference between the unclean and the clean; and they shut their eyes to the keeping of my Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.” Ezekiel 22:26 NIV

The book of Ezekiel has been one prophecy following another, illustrating the doom and punishment coming forth to the Israelites as a result of their sin and disobedience to the Lord. In today’s chapter and particularly in this verse, the focus has now shifted towards the priests. The priests knew better, for it was in their office to observe and to teach the distinction between the holy and the unholy, and to care for the Sabbath. In all these areas, as noted in the verse, they failed and were unfaithful.

As Christ followers, just like the priests, we too know better. We have the Lord’s Word to guide our path, to distinguish between that which is holy and that which is unclean. We have the knowledge, but do we apply it to our daily lives? What truths are we promoting? Are we encouraging others to humble themselves and worship the Lord? Or do we resemble the priests by dishonouring the name of the Lord?

May all who fear God, unite in promoting His truth and His righteousness.

  1. Interesting that that verse also stood out for me for many of the same reasons: “Your priests have violated my instructions and defiled my holy things. They make no distinction between what is holy and what is not. And they do not teach my people the difference between what is ceremonially clean and unclean. They disregard my Sabbath days so that I am dishonored among them.”

When you are in a position of leadership, you are required to lead by example. I thought about the student teacher who was asked not to return to complete the last 3 days of her practicum after attending an anti mask rally. There are always consequences to consider when you hold a position of leadership.
