Ezekiel 27

“When your merchandise went out on the seas, you satisfied many nations; with your great wealth and your wares you enriched the kings of the earth. Now you are shattered by the sea in the depths of the waters; your wares and all your company have gone down with you.” Ezekiel 27:33-34 NIV

In this chapter we are still reading of the mourning for Tyre due to its destruction. Tyre became wealthy and strong, providing goods and trading merchandise among the other nations. They had many different products so they were able to provide what other nations could not.

Perhaps it was the fact that their trade was so vast and the interest they received from other nations was so great, that makes this fall and ruin even more lamentable. Perhaps in us reading this, we can be reminded of the vanity and uncertainty that comes with worldly wealth, riches, and pleasures. Perhaps we need to remind ourselves that those riches are temporary and that we need to place our focus and joy into something else – something greater.

Instead of focusing on that which has been created, may we turn our attention to the One who created all things; trusting, hoping, and placing our confidence in Him.

  2. Great thoughts.
    This stood out for me:
“Everything is lost— your riches and wares, your sailors and pilots, your ship builders, merchants, and warriors. On the day of your ruin, everyone on board sinks into the depths of the sea.”
    ‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭27:27‬ ‭NLT‬‬
Just as you already mentioned, this verse reminded me that things with earthly value are so much less valuable than things with eternal value.
