Ezekiel 35

“‘Therefore, as surely as I live,’ declares the Sovereign Lord, ‘I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you.’” Ezekiel 35:6 NIV

As I read this verse, it reminded me to be careful of that which I submit to and allow myself to pursue. Romans 8:6 tells us that, “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” It is a slow fade, but when we pursue the desires of the flesh and that becomes our focus, we have begun to program our thoughts in a certain path and become numb to the Holy Spirit’s leading. The result of this is finding ourselves tangled in a sin that we no longer have control of, and now it begins to control (pursue) us.

“So I say, walk by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:6) May we hate what the Lord hates and love what the Lord loves; pursuing His commands and thereby reaping the benefits of walking in His ways.

  1. Great thoughts.
This stood out for me: ““Your eternal hatred for the people of Israel led you to butcher them when they were helpless, when I had already punished them for all their sins.”
    ‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭35:5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Classic “kick them when they’re down” move. God already punished them and yet they endured additional’man-made’ punishment not orchestrated by God. But God was going to redeem Israel as He always said He would. God is the prosecutor, judge, and jury and He alone will rebuke, restore, and redeem. How often do we place ourselves into those roles… ready to prosecute, judge, and sentence others. Little do we think about it not actually being our job AND the fact that our judgement may cause our own rebuking.
