“You are to do the same on the seventh day of the month for anyone who sins unintentionally or through ignorance; so you are to make atonement for the temple.” Ezekiel 45:20 NIV
Two things popped into my mind in reading this verse. The first is that we need to be mindful of that which we may have done unintentionally; confessing and seeking forgiveness for those sins too. David, the psalmist, asked the Lord to search his heart and to reveal to him that which is sinful and unknown. David not only wanted to be pardoned and cleansed from the sins he knew about, but also from the sins that he perhaps overlooked or even forgotten.
My second thought is that the sins we commit, even the ones done unintentionally, affect other areas of our lives. Perhaps we take too lightly the sin in our lives and even down play the domino effect it has. But I’m thinking in particular, the effect it might have in the areas that we serve. This passage would suggest that the one involved the other, and the holy place required purification because of the sins of the ‘holy people’.
May we take seriously the unknown sin in our lives. May the Lord reveal to us that which is unknown, so that we can ask for forgiveness and take the proper steps of repentance, purifying our hearts, souls, and minds for His service.

Good thoughts. What stood out for me was that tithes seems to apply to so many things: a portion of land must be set aside as holy, a portion of olive oil or animals must be set aside as an offering, even the Sabbath (a portion of our week) is set aside as different or special. We should be purposeful in setting aside some things to realize that not only that portion, but the whole thing, is a gift from God.
