Daniel 4

“You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox and be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes.” Daniel 4:25 NIV

King Nebuchadnezzar was powerful. His royal residence was majestic. He had all he needed and the servants to act upon his very commands. For him to hear the words in the verse above, would have been very hard for him to believe, or for anyone in his position.

Whatever affliction God chooses to lay upon us, we need to bear it patiently. Seven years is a long time and would have seemed very long for a king of this power and wealth. But if the Lord sees fit to keep a sinner from multiplying crimes, or dishonouring His name, the prevention of habitual or continual sin should be far more preferable to the final judgement of it.

May we be aware of our pride which causes us to forget the King of kings, and seek blessings only in Heaven which can never be taken away from us.

  1. ““‘King Nebuchadnezzar, please accept my advice. Stop sinning and do what is right. Break from your wicked past and be merciful to the poor. Perhaps then you will continue to prosper.’”
    ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭4:27‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It’s hard to take advice. We like to think we know what’s best. Nebuchadnezzar believed it was by his own work that Babylon prospered. Stop sinning is our goal but it’s hard to avoid temptation. Pride infects us and causes great damage.
