“Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.” Daniel 9:18 NIV
If we were only able to approach the Lord in prayer and present our requests to Him because of our righteousness or being deserving of it, we would never approach Him. Daniel is humble before the Lord in his prayer, and gives all the glory to God as the One to be feared, but also to be trusted. In our prayer, we should look to God as being great in His goodness, His majesty, and His mercy.
In all our prayers, may we be as Daniel – humble before the Lord and believing that He not only hears our requests, but answers them too. Not because of who we are, but because of who He is.

“Therefore, the Lord has brought upon us the disaster he prepared. The Lord our God was right to do all of these things, for we did not obey him.”
Daniel 9:14 NLT
Three truths from this passage:
1. God keeps his promises
2. We are sinners and unworthy
3. There are consequences for disobedience
“I went on praying and confessing my sin and the sin of my people, pleading with the Lord my God for Jerusalem, his holy mountain.”
Daniel 9:20 NLT
Three things from this verse:
1. God listens to, and hears, our prayers.(Gabriel comes to explain)
2. When we confess, He shows mercy
(It is through confession and repentance we are saved)
3. Our prayers matter
(Would God have answered if Daniel had not prayed?)
