Daniel 10

“‘Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed,’ he said, ‘Peace! Be strong now; be strong.’ When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, ‘Speak, my Lord, since you have given me strength.” Daniel 10:19 NIV

Peace, as a Biblical greeting of hello or good-bye, denotes not only the absence of conflict but also safety, wholeness, completeness, and well-being in all relationships of life. Peace is God’s blessing for His people and He offers it as a gift.

Peace was proclaimed at the birth of Christ and achieved by His death at the cross. We receive peace when we are justified through faith and develop a close relationship with God, a peace that the wicked do not experience. In John 14:27, Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Peace only comes from God and when Jesus Christ comes again, there will be perfect peace.

  1. “Then he said, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer.”
    ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭10:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This stood out to me because I think we often pray in “hypotheticals”: “lead me Lord”, “speak to me”, “open and close doors” and when things happen we are thankful that God appears to have answered our prayers. What if God literally lead us by the hand to the place He wanted us to go? What if God literally spoke to us? What if we saw a vision or an angel reeling us which doors we should walk through? We often feel God is leading without being absolutely sure that he is and Daniel received an honest to goodness literal answer to his prayers. What a thrilling and yet scary experience! What would we pray for if we knew God would answer us as directly as he did for Daniel?
