“Here is the list of the Jewish exiles of the provinces who returned from their captivity. King Nebuchadnezzar had deported them to Babylon, but now they returned to Jerusalem and the other towns in Judah where they originally lived.” Ezra 2:1 NLT
Today’s chapter tells us of the Jewish exiles that returned to their homes. A homecoming if you will. A homecoming is not a Canadian tradition, but would be for American colleges and high schools. These homecomings would be held as an annual tradition where alumni, students, fans, and community members would come together to honour a school’s traditions and history. This tradition would be one that would promote the reminiscing of looking back at the good times and good memories.
The homecoming for the exiles was not for the purpose of looking back, but for looking forward. A second chance if you will. The Lord provided his people with another opportunity to serve Him in the Promised Land and obey His commands. This is a great reminder that the Lord does not stay angry forever, but delights in giving renewed opportunities for service.

I find myself thinking about logistics. Sometimes we glance over details without really considering them.
“So a total of 42,360 people returned to Judah,”
Ezra 2:64 NLT
42,000 people is not a small crowd. Did they return all at one time? In small groups? Did they know each other? Was there excitement and joy on the journey?
Seems impossible and yet what God has promised will come to pass, regardless if the details seem impossible to consider if you think of them logistical.
