“Come, Zion! Escape, you who live in Daughter Babylon!” Zechariah 2:7 NIV
The Israelites were in Babylon not because of their obedience to the Lord, but because of their disobedience. Their upcoming exile from Babylon was for them to see the power of the Lord and to witness and understand His promises.
Just as it was never God’s plan for the Israelites to remain in Babylon, it ought not to be the place where we remain either. Though living in a sinful state while enjoying the treasures that the world offers is the easy road, we need to escape that life and not look back. The Lord proclaimed deliverance to the captives, but this message is for everyone. May we take to heart this message of deliverance and be resolved that sin will no longer have dominion over us.

“Many nations will join themselves to the Lord on that day, and they, too, will be my people. I will live among you, and you will know that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies sent me to you.”
Zechariah 2:11 NLT
“I will live among you”
What a comfort that must have been.
When someone lives “among you”, they know your struggles, they know your needs, they know you intimately. To live among them during exile or in separation from what was expected is so encouraging. I wonder if they thought this would happen immediately? Did they think that the Lord of Heaven’s armies would deliver them soon?
