Zechariah 3

“Then the angel showed me Jeshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord. The Accuser, Satan, was there at the angel’s right hand, making accusations against Jeshua. Jeshua’s clothing was filthy as he stood there before the angel. So the angel said to the others standing there, ‘Take off his filthy clothes.’ And turning to Jeshua he said, ‘See, I have taken away your sins, and now I am giving you these fine new clothes.’” Zechariah 3:1, 3-4 NLT

In the above verses, we can see the contrast between Satan and the Lord. While Satan was making accusations towards Jeshua, the Lord was exonerating him by taking away his sins. Satan loves nothing more than to remind us of our filth and who we once were, while the Lord reminds us that we are a new creation in Him and that our old self is no more.

I heard a saying a while back that “Satan knows your name but calls you by your sin. God knows your sin but calls you by your name.” Dear reader, may we not fall trap to Satan’s schemes and accusations, but rather rejoice in the fact that Christ has removed our sins and that we have been made new in Him!

  1. Great thoughts.

“So the angel said to the others standing there, “Take off his filthy clothes.” And turning to Jeshua he said, “See, I have taken away your sins, and now I am giving you these fine new clothes.””

I’m not a camping kind of person. I have been camping and endured all that goes with it: campfire smell, gritty sand that doesn’t quite wash away, and the layer of bug spray that you need to get through the evening. There are few things better after a few days of camping than to strip off your grimy clothes and hop into a real hit shower with soap and wash away the campingness from yourself. You exit the bathroom feeling refreshed, clean, and relaxed. I can only imagine the feeling of clean that Jesus brings us through the redemption of our dirty sins and the feeling of clean we will feel with them washed away.
