“So he said to me, ‘This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty.’” Zechariah 4:6 NIV
Even though the exiles received strong resistance from their enemies that caused the physical act of rebuilding the Temple to cease, through this vision, the angel told Zechariah that the Lord would ensure the completion of it.
God will bring to pass His purpose concerning the church even without the labour of man. Often He makes use of us, His instruments, yet He needs them not. The fact that He does not need us should give us confidence; when we are obedient to the Lord’s calling, we can not fail because it is not by our might or power that the work is completed, but by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The difficulty in the vision was represented as a great mountain. But may we be encouraged that all difficulties and all objections shall vanish when we have faith in our Lord. Though mountains present themselves, they will become as plains, for the Lord will not forsake the work of His hands.

Great thoughts.
The mountain illustration stood out for me: “Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will become a level plain before him! And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: ‘May God bless it! May God bless it!’””
Zechariah 4:7 NLT
We can often only see the mountain before us. It seems impossible to overcome. Yet, God promises that we
will see a level playing fiend when we trust in Him where He leads.
