“For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.” Ezra 7:10 NKJV
Ezra provides a reminder for us that in order to do God’s will, we must first be devoted to Him and prepare our hearts for Him. Ezra first gave himself to study the Law, then to practice it himself, and lastly to teach its statutes and ordinances to the people of Israel.
Ezra, in some sense, is acting out the Great Commission, that we as believers have been called to do. In doing so, just as the Lord was with Ezra in his journey, Christ is with us in ours.

“Anyone who refuses to obey the law of your God and the law of the king will be punished immediately, either by death, banishment, confiscation of goods, or imprisonment.””
Ezra 7:26 NLT
The king recognized that God had punished the Israelites and banished them, even as God’s chosen people. How much worse would it be to disobey or prevent the temple from being rebuilt when it wasn’t even God’s chosen people. For the king it was win-win: stay on God’s good side and please the Israelites who were the chosen.
