Nehemiah 3

“Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests went to work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate. They dedicated it and set its doors in place, building as far as the Tower of the Hundred, which they dedicated, and as far as the Tower of Hananel.” Nehemiah 3:1 NIV

This verse set the stage for the rest of the chapter. Saying that you will do something and actually doing it, are two different things. Many of us will say, “yes, this needs to be done” or “yes, we should do this” but that is quite often as far as we get. The workers in this chapter were not like that and did not procrastinate. As soon as they were resolved to build the wall they lost no time and began their duties.

May it never be said of us that we left good work to be done tomorrow which we might as well have done today.

  1. What stood out for me was that the rebuilding tool many many people with various skills and talents. The temple reconstruction was a huge task and it was accomplished by people coming together. This is a model for us in the future: many hands make light work. It is easier to work with someone to accomplish a substantial task than it Is to try and do it alone.
