“These were the priests and Levites who returned with Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and with Joshua:” Nehemiah 12:1a NIV
In this chapter we are provided with the names of many priests and Levites that would have been respected in their day among the returned Jews. The list of names included by Nehemiah is not explained, but we can draw a logical conclusion and good reason for their appearance.
We often hear of, or recount for ourselves, memories of the past regarding what a former pastor at our church had done. During the remembrance of these times, we often look at what they did, the actions they took, and then stand in awe of them, thinking that it can not be done again because they are no longer with us.
Though it is good to remember the great deeds of good people, it is better to acknowledge their obedience in their calling by the Lord. For it is the Lord who calls us into ministry, it is the Lord who works in the background, and it is the Lord whom we ought to stand in awe of because He is always with us.

This stood out for me: “Many sacrifices were offered on that joyous day, for God had given the people cause for great joy. The women and children also participated in the celebration, and the joy of the people of Jerusalem could be heard far away.”
Nehemiah 12:43 NLT
The return to their “new normal” after the restoration of the wall was exciting and cause for celebration. We too are entering a time of celebration as we return for our “exile” (quarantine) and begin to collectively worship with others.
