Malachi 4

“‘Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘Not a root or a branch will be left to them.’” Malachi 4:1 NIV

The Day of judgement has been fixed by the Lord. We do not know when that day will come, but the return of Christ will certainly happen. As believers, who are striving to follow all of the Lord’s commands, we may feel at times that the arrogant and evildoers appear to be ‘getting away with’ or ‘going unpunished for’ their actions, but when that day comes, all will be reversed.

As a wildfire burns and destroys all that is in its path, so the Lord will consume all the evil. But in the case of the Lord, He will leave no remnant of the evil that once seemed to conquer this world. Even the roots of evil will be destroyed, preventing it to never sprout or rise up again.

Though it’s hard to imagine a place where evil no longer exists, but that is what we have to look forward to when we join our Heavenly Father in his Kingdom.

  1. Your thoughts brought to mind the photos of wildfires in the West. Fire brings unpredictable destruction and no one can stop it. Judgement will feel the same way.

So what can we do? Guard against the fires of destruction:
““Remember to obey the Law of Moses, my servant—all the decrees and regulations that I gave him on Mount Sinai for all Israel.”
