Luke 1

“Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.” Luke 1:1-4 NIV

We have just completed reading through the Old Testament and today our journey continues into the New Testament. The above verses are a great reminder for us that the accounts of the miracles and wonders that we have read so far, took place and were told by first hand eye witnesses. This was so that future generations, and in this case Luke, would be able to accurately confirm and write all that is true for the generations that would follow him. The accuracy of these accounts provides us with the certainty of what has taken place, along with the hope that comes with the birth of Jesus Christ.

  1. One of those stood out for me too: “They used the eyewitness reports circulating among us from the early disciples.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭1:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Jesus said he was coming back. If I had been a disciple, seeing all I had seen, I would have assumed Jesus was coming back very soon. They probably didn’t initially think to do it because they would have assumed Jesus was coming back soon. I’m sure once the disciples realize Jesus many not come back in their lifetime and so they better write stuff down for others to know.
