“Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. Don’t just say to each other, ‘We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones.” Luke 3:8 NLT
If we decide to lose weight or choose to add muscle by weight lifting, in either scenario we should see results. They are most likely gradual changes over an extended period of time, but changes none the less. Quite likely, one would document their beginning weights or measurements and then every week thereafter, have another ‘weigh in’ session with the anticipation of noticing results.
We are not likely to write down and document all of our failures as we walk with the Lord, but when we are focused on turning from our sinful desires, the fruit of our labour ought to be noticed by others. Just as one will not gain muscle because they are claiming to be weight lifting, we will not reflect a life devoted to Christ if we do not truly repent of and turn away from our sins.
When we make way for the Gospel in our hearts, bring our thoughts into obedience with Christ, and remove all that hinders our relationship with Him, we can then welcome His grace and His salvation. And upon doing all of that, we cannot help but have it become evident to others.

Interesting to note the genealogy at the end of this passage. In a time long before ancestry.com, it’s amazing to see the notations of where Jesus fit in the line of David, Abraham, and Adam. Some key names are easily recognized and others a just a name on the list and we know very little about them. why? Their significance is not less important but some are just not as explored in detail. We all have that value: important in God’s story even if we aren’t the main character.
