Matthew 4

“From then on Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.’” Matthew 4:17 NLT

This verse resonated with me because we just read the same words in Matthew 3:2. But these words in the two verses were spoken by two different people; in chapter 3 it was mentioned by John the Baptist and in chapter 4 they were spoken by Jesus. Though the words came from the mouths of different people, the message being preached was the same. There were no discrepancies then and this message has never changed.

This reminded me that our message (as a family of believers) to those who do not yet know Christ, must align with Scripture; there ought to be no inconsistencies. It also reminded me that my daily walk must also align with what I preach. In order to properly prepare others for the coming of Christ, we need to know Scripture, but also remain consistent in all we do and say.

  1. Interesting because I thought the same thing: we need to know the scriptures! Not just to align our words and actions but to fight against the devil just as Jesus did. When we know and abide by the truth, nothing can stand against us.
