Matthew 8

“A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, ‘Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.’ Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’ Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.” Matthew 8:2-3 NIV

Here we have an account of Christ cleansing a leper. This account not only reminds us to direct ourselves towards Christ for his healing power, but the text also teaches us the manner in which we ought to approach the Great Physician.

We cannot be sure of the Lord’s will, but we can be certain of His mercy. No sin is too great that Christ’s blood cannot atone for, and no corruption is too strong that His grace cannot cover. Like the leper, we need to approach the Lord in humility, not making demands, but humbly request the power of His cleansing.

Also like the leper, may those who approach the Lord by faith be certain that He is freely willing to provide us with his mercy and his grace.

  1. “When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭8:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Wouldn’t you love to be the person who amazed Jesus (son of God, redeemer of humanity, prince of peace)? To have the faith that Jesus could heal with just his words was a huge thing. Not common even within God’s hoses people and way less likely outside that. Yet this man believes that Jesus could do it. May we have that kind of faith.
