Matthew 12

“When an impure spirt comes out of a person it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.” Matthew 12:43-45 NIV

These verses are applicable to those who hear the word of God and are reformed only in part, but not truly converted. If we do not let Christ enter every area of our lives and every corner of our heart, Satan will return searching for and filling those dark areas where Christ is not.

Satan is constantly looking at ways to destroy; just as Christ did not come for the righteous, Satan does not attack the wicked. So these verses can also apply to those who have been Christ followers for a long time. When Paul wrote to the church of Ephesus, he reminds them in Ephesians 6:11, to “Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” This is a choice that we need to make every hour of every day.

For every heart has the residence of an unclean spirit, except those that are a temple of the Holy Spirit, by faith in Christ.

  1. The first thing that stood out was the words of Jesus in red. I think reading the text in red makes Jesus’ words more powerful. Reminded me of the song that once played on CHVN by NewSong:

I do believe it’s gonna be another red letter day
[it’s gonna be another red letter day!!]
I do believe it’s gonna be another chance for me
To take His Word and walk by faith
I got a smile with every step I take
Knowing He is here with me
It’s gonna be a red letter day

The other thing that stood out (especially after a weekend visit from our out of town daughter)
“As Jesus was speaking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him.”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12:46‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Just as we had to realize that our daughter’s visit was full of all the things she needed to do, Jesus also had other priorities. But reading this I totally had empathy for his fam jam.
