Mark 3

“He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.” Mark 3:14-15 NIV

As we have been reading the NT part of Scripture, I can not help but notice that Jesus is not only physically healing many individuals, but He is also casting away many demons from those who are possessed. A physical ailment, such as leprosy, would have been visible to the eye, but an evil spirit is on the inside of an individual and not as easily spotted. This reminds me that as much as our physical health is important, it is that which is in our heart that needs to be cast away in order to make room for our Lord and Saviour.

  1. A silly thing stood out for me: “These are the twelve he chose: Simon (whom he named Peter), James and John (the sons of Zebedee, but Jesus nicknamed them “Sons of Thunder”), Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus, Simon (the zealot),”
    ‭‭Mark‬ ‭3:16-18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Makes me think of the casting directors for Survivor… out of all the contestants chosen for the show…why in the world would you cast two people with the same name to confuse the viewers. Here we see Jesus call two Simons and two named James. Were there really so few names? Or is it like Survivor, that these were just the perfect players and their names irrelevant?
