Today’s chapter is packed with the many teachings of Jesus to his disciples, the Pharisees, and to the crowds that followed. Many verses popped out to me as being important, but I felt that the following verse encapsulated the main point in it all:
“The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.” Luke 6:7 NIV
The part that resonates with me in the above verse is that the Pharisees and the teachers were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus. They were watching him closely; not with the intentions of wanting to believe in him as being the Son of God, but to see if He would slip up, contradict his words, or do wrong.
Christ healed the man with the shrivelled hand even though He knew that his enemies would use this against him one day, but He was neither ashamed nor afraid to do the will of his Father. Christ was not influenced by what was ‘popular’ to do at that time, nor did he allow himself to be guided by the momentum of the crowds and accepting their theory. Rather, He was grounded in the principles and truth of Scripture, and not the principles popular with the crowds.
May we not be discouraged or drawn away from our duty due to the opposition we face. Instead, may we remain rooted in the truth of Scripture as Christ was, in order to fulfill the work that the Father has already begun.

So many nuggets of wisdom in today’s reading. This one stood out for me: ““Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.”
Luke 6:35 NLT
It’s easy to love our friends but so much harder to love those we do not like. However, it is in our actions towards those we do not like that we provoke curiosity and lead others to question why we live differently.
