“The demons begged Jesus, ‘Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.’ He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.” Mark 5:12-13 NIV
Prior to these verses, Mark provides a description of the demon possessed man in verses 3-5: “This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him.”
Here we have a man that no one could restrain, not even with chains and shackles. The strength within this man was not his own, but from that of many demons (verse 9). We also see the power of our Lord Jesus Christ displayed in this chapter as well. While Jesus was still some distance away, the man approached Him begging Jesus to not torture him. The man realizes that he is out powered by Jesus. The evil spirits within the man begged Jesus, pleading with Him to be sent into the herd of pigs. Even the evil spirits realize that they are out powered by Jesus and submit to Him.
Dear readers, there is power in the name of Jesus and like the demon possessed man, Jesus will break every one of our chains. But also like the demon possessed man, we need to approach the King and submit to Him, and He will remove from within us that which is dark and evil.
In reading and writing this, the following song came to my mind and I trust that it will bless you today: https://youtu.be/-pD2zIuiC2g

Hallelujah! Death has no grip on us…we belong to the Master!

I’ve always read the story of the man possessed with joy that he was restored. Today it occurred to me whose pigs were they and did some pig farmer just lose 2000 pigs? Great for the man sad for the swine owner.
