I found this chapter to be jam packed and full of great wisdom spoken by Jesus. Many verses stood out to me, but I have chosen to single out a very familiar verse in John 8:32: “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” NIV
There are two things mentioned in this verse that we as humans search for – knowledge and freedom. Throughout this pandemic, due to the governments attempt to minimize the outbreak, many Canadians for their own interest have referred to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, so that they would know their rights and not let go of their freedom.
But the truth and the freedom that Christ speaks about is far greater than this. Not to minimize the Word but for the purpose of making the parallel, Jesus refers to the ultimate Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The truth that He speaks about is his Father’s teachings. He spoke the words that his Father taught him. Jesus always did what pleased his Father. His heart was filled with the desire to please his Father which left no room in his heart for sin – and that is the freedom that we receive in finding the truth.
A slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs forever. Whosoever belongs to God hears what he says and listens gladly. When we accept the truth, then we are no longer slaves to sin, but become a child of God, and receive a freedom like no other.
In reading and writing this post, the following song came to mind: https://youtu.be/lKw6uqtGFfo

Great thoughts.
I thought this was an interesting connection:
“They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!””
John 8:7 NLT
“At that point they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden from them and left the Temple.”
John 8:59 NLT
In the first circumstance, Jesus doesn’t condemn a woman caught in the act of adultery (shame the man involved is not publicly humiliated). Instead He says let the innocent cast the first stone.
In the second circumstance, Jesus is “caught” making claims to be the Messiah. They immediately took it upon themselves to be judge and jury against him. Instead of realizing their own shortfalls, they began to punish him themselves. Was rock throwing so common back then???
