John 10

“The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.” John 10:3 NIV

In this parable, Jesus illustrates that good men and women are fitly compared to sheep. Men and women, as creatures depending on their Creator, are called the sheep of his pasture. Good men, as new creatures, have the good qualities of sheep in that they are harmless and inoffensive as sheep – they are meek and quiet, without noise. They are patient as sheep – under the hand of both the shearer and the butcher. They are useful, tame, and controllable – they are friendly with one another and are used in sacrifices.

The sheep of Christ listen to, follow, and obey Him. They submit to and only listen to their shepherd’s voice; they have absolutely no comfort in following anyone else. May we be like the sheep of this parable.

  1. “The hired hand runs away because he’s working only for the money and doesn’t really care about the sheep.”

As a business owner, we now truly understand how owners are way more invested than just an employee. Jesus is even more invested as the owner, creator, and father.
