“Do you think I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I have come to divide people against each other! From now on families will be split apart, three in favour of me, and two against – or two in favour and three against.” Luke 12:51-52 NLT
The birth of Christ was designed to be good news for all people and His purpose in coming was also designed to bring peace. However, the introduction and implementation of the Gospel into ones life will bring about division and separation. Separation from an old way of living and therefore division from current friends and even family members.
This division is a direct result from who we are as individuals which is due to our inner lusts and pride. Though divisions will be stirred up, our desire to speak in truth regarding the Gospel while living according to it, should not be snuffed out. Christ’s plan was to teach His disciples in order to preach the Gospel.
May we know and understand that the responsibility of teaching and preaching the Good News, though it brings about division, has not been removed from even this current generation of believers. Christ continued to preach the message of salvation in order to bring glory to his Father – may we do likewise.

Good thoughts. I thought this passage could also refer to the divisions that happen between individuals because they both think their way is supported by scripture. The division hurts.
