Matthew 22

“Jesus replied, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and the greatest commandment.’” Matthew 22:37-38 NIV

This verse reminded me that it is not enough to love the Lord our God with only part of our body – even if that part is in its entirety. We need to perform a personal reality check to see where we need to change. Do we have thoughts that creep into our minds, or do we burn with inner desires that are contrary to Scripture – and more importantly, do we act upon those thoughts and desires?

Though this command is not humanly possible, this is what we as Christians need to strive towards – loving the Lord with every single part of our body, even the most inner parts. We should not find ourselves content in our walk with the Lord, but rather, find ourselves to be more in need of Him, as we begin to see ourselves for who we really are.

  1. This stood out for me: “No one could answer him. And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions.”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:46‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There are times where you are left speechless because there is no more argument left. It makes me think of a question our son had in middle school. The question was “are all Canadian citizens allowed to vote?” Our son answered no and it was marked incorrect. Upon questioning the teacher, she explained that only Canadian citizens could vote and our then 14 year old son said “but I’m a Canadian citizen and I can’t vote”. Speechless.

What should have happened to the religious leaders did happen in our son’s case: the teacher acknowledged that he was right even though it was initially understood in a different way. The religious leaders could have learned so much and realized that Jesus knew the truth and was eager to share it.
