Mark 14

“Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them. They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over.” Mark 14:10-11 NIV

I am always surprised to hear how Judas, being one of the Twelve, not only had the thought to betray Jesus, but deliberately left on his own accord to strike a deal with the chief priests, and after all that, still sought out an opportunity to betray him. Judas was a man who knew Christ. He walked with him, heard his words of wisdom, witnessed his miracles, and still chose to betray him.

Though Judas was a personal friend of Christ, He was not omitted from being subjected to, and falling to, the desires of the flesh. May this act as a reminder for us that no matter where we are in our walk with Christ, no matter how close we feel we are, that we too can stumble and fall away from our Master.

  1. Can’t say I remember this part: “One young man following behind was clothed only in a long linen shirt. When the mob tried to grab him, he slipped out of his shirt and ran away naked.”
    ‭‭Mark‬ ‭14:51-52‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I think it’s interesting to hear each point of view. I wish we had all the disciples point of view. Imagine being able to hear judas’ rational (maybe he really believed he was “helping” Jesus begin his actual ministry to free the Jewish people on earth) or Peter’s point of view- he always strikes me as a bit of a wild one and it would have been interesting to see what he thought was important.
