“Father, if you are willing take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42 NIV
Christ knows what’s in store for Him; being betrayed, wrongfully accused, mocked, ridiculed, beaten, spit upon, and eventually being nailed to and hung on a cross to die.
In a commentary that I read, it was noted that this would have been during a cool season. Jesus would have been in the open air, it was during the night, he was near the ground, and yet he breaks out into a sweat. This speaks to the agony that he was feeling and his understanding of what was about to come. In verse 44, Luke compares Christ’s sweat to that of drops of blood falling to the ground.
In spite of the extreme agony that Christ was feeling, his desire was to do the will of his Father. Though not an easy or enjoyable path, Christ was still willing and prepared to drink from the cup placed before him.
May it be our prayer to wholeheartedly say, “yet not my will, but yours be done.”

“And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly.”
Luke 22:62 NLT
Regret can be overwhelming. Peter was told he’d deny Jesus three times and yet even with that warning, it comes to pass. What a feeling of distress Peter must have felt when he caught Jesus’ glance. Thankfully there is mercy and forgiveness for all our failures so that our regret doesn’t have to separate us from Christ.
