“The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, ‘He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.’” Luke 23:35 NIV
Everything Christ did was for us along with the purpose of bringing glory to his Heavenly Father. He taught and demonstrated to us how live, he was obedient to his Father’s plan, he was silent when wrongfully accused, he continued to encourage others while on the way to his crucifixion at Golgotha, and while being prepared for his crucifixion, Jesus even says, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they are doing”.
Christ came so that he could save others. Because he was God’s Chosen One, he humbled himself and gave himself up as a pure and holy sacrifice. Jesus came for us. Jesus lived for us. Jesus died for us. And he was raised to life after death by the Heavenly Father for us. It is in this power of conquering death that we too, through the blood of Christ, can also have eternal life.
The rulers probably never realized how true their words actually were as they scoffed and sneered at him. For He was the Chosen One. My hope is that I can model Christ in a way that draws others towards Him. That they too would come to the realization that the Chosen One, the King of the Jews, God’s Messiah, would lay down his life for them as well.

This stood out for me: “(Herod and Pilate, who had been enemies before, became friends that day.)”
Luke 23:12 NLT
This little side note seemed to be important enough to mention so I did some reading and liked what this commentary had to say: https://www.google.ca/amp/s/tiredoframen.wordpress.com/2014/04/05/christ-the-peacemaker-herod-and-pilate-became-friends-because-of-jesus/amp/
Another commentary suggested that this note also gave credibility to the Bible because this can be noted in historical records as well. This comment was especially interesting:
“Besides being a physician, Dr. Luke was a careful and thorough historian. He speaks of his modus operandi in his Gospel: Inasmuch as many have undertaken to an account of the things accomplished among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order. . . (Luke 1). He knew that grounding his book in verifiable historical facts would make his Gospel more credible to its readers“ from this: https://christianity.stackexchange.com/questions/57210/is-there-any-significance-to-the-aside-in-luke-2312-regarding-pilate-and-herod
