Acts 2

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.” Acts 2:42 NIV

Teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer. I believe that all children of God would agree that these four actions are both important and required. As I was reading today’s passage, this verse stood to me because I was thinking of performing all these actions in the midst of our current pandemic. Particularly fellowship.

The word fellowship is derived from the Greek word koinonia. Koinonia can be defined as holding something in common. Koinonia describes the unity of the Spirit that comes from the Christian’s shared beliefs, convictions, and behaviours. When these shared values are in place, genuine koinonia occurs. This fellowship produces our mutual cooperation in God’s worship, God’s work, and God’s will being done.

Like the early apostles, may we as believers in Christ exemplify koinonia to the world and may that unity be what draws others to Him, particularly during this time of tremendous diversity.

  1. Interesting. The camp that comes to our school is Camp Koinonia. I didn’t realize the significance.

This stood out for me: “Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.”

Last Sunday, the microphone our speaker was using had a malfunction. It was difficult to hear what he was saying…in an indoor space…with sound boards…and it was easily remedied.

I can’t imagine the logistics in speaking to over 3000 people in a way that they could all hear, they understood, and they desired to be baptized. It’s hard to imagine.
